One of the Oregon District’s most popular chefs is planning a new restaurant concept in Kettering. Dana Downs, executive chef at Roost Modern Italian, is beginning construction on a new restaurant at 580 Lincoln Park Blvd. in Kettering — the former site of The Tropics. The new restaurant will be called “Park” and will serve upscale American cuisine.
“We’re about out of space here in Oregon with Roost, so I thought I would try something new,” Downs told me. “(The building owners) gave us a great offer and the tenants that know about it seem very excited.”
Downs is investing about $175,000 into a total build-out of the Lincoln Park space, which will seat 100 and employ about 30 to 40 people. The 8,600-square-foot space will have a bar, two dining rooms and private event space, as well as a large outdoor patio.
The space is across the street from Fraze Pavilion and restaurants there have been popular during the concert season. She said the traditional American dishes served there will have an upscale twist, likening the new concept to a city club. Downs said she is shooting for a fall opening date for the restaurant.
“That location is fantastic, and there’s a lot of family tradition there for us having events,” Downs said.
The 580 Lincoln Park space has seen several concepts, including Pavilion Grille, Lincoln Park Grille, and Norton’s. It was most recently The Tropics, which closed its doors in late 2014.
“We are very excited for Dana to open her new restaurant at Park Place,” said Julia Ehret, Indianapolis-based leasing agent for Healthcare Trust of America Inc., which owns the Park Place buildings. “We think ‘Park’ will be a great amenity for our tenants at the complex as well as the surrounding community.”
Healthcare Trust of America has been marketing the 134,000 square feet of Class A medical and general office space at Park Place since buying the buildings for $16.2 million in 2007, according to its Web site and county records
